Influence of introduction of mycophenolate mofetil and reduction of ciclosporine on renal dysfunction after cardiac transplantation (IMPROVED study)

Project management at the University of Würzburg:

Participating scientists:

The aim of this prospective controlled multicenter trial was to investigate whether modifi-cation of immunosuppression in heart transpant recipients on “classical” immunosuppressive therapy with ciclosporin + azathioprin + steroids by introduction of mycophe-nolate mofetil and reduction of ciclosporin leads to improvement of renal dysfunction in compensated renal failure. The study demonstrated a highly significant decrease of serum creatinine and increase in creatinine clearance in the intervention group, while these parameters remained unchanged in the control group.
