Vector-mediated expression of trophic factors for axon rescue in animal models for inherited neuropathies

Inherited demyelination often leads to a substantial loss of axons that causes serious clinical features, such as muscle weakness and eventually muscle wasting. In order to mitigate demyelination-related axonal loss, application of trophic factors might be a promising approach. For this purpose, established adeno-viral vectors expressing trophic factors (e.g., NT-3) will be injected into muscles of mice mimicking severe forms of inherited neuropathies.
