Abstract:
A dysfunction of the autonomic nervous system in ALS was examined by scintigraphy and a battery of clinical autonomic testings. In a longitudinal study, a progressive disorder of sudomotoric function and cardiovagal as well as the vasomotoric regulation was shown in ALS besides dysfunction of the salivary glands. The results support the hypothesis of a subclinical multisystem disorder in ALS which was formerly estimated to be a pure motor degenerative disease.
