Abstract:
Candidate genes which contribute to the pathogenesis of sporadic motoneuron disease are so far ill defined. During the course of this project, a series of candidate genes were identified, and in particular the role of CNTF and LIF gene mutations characterised with respect to their function in sporadic motoneuron disease. This was achieved by cross-breeding various mouse models and investigation of cooperative effects between various gene products in maintenance of motoneurons.
