Abstract:
The p75 Neurotrophin receptor can actively mediate cell death of developing neurons. We have investigated survival of isolated motoneurons from wildtype and p75-/- mice, and could show that lack of p75 does not influence survival, but specificity and high affinity binding of neurotrophins. These data show that p75 plays an important role as a co-receptor for those neurons which express significant levels of trkB.
