Developmental requirement for gp130 signalling in neuronal survival and astrocyte differentiation

Members of the CNTF-family do not only support survival of neurons, but also differentiation of glial cells. We could show, that mice in which the gp130 receptor component is inactivated do not only exhibit reduced survival of sensory and motoneurons during development, but also specific defects in differentiation of astrocytes.
