Research foci (and basic equipment-based research projects):
Laboratory for the research on bio-(neuro)chemical and molecularbiological mechanisms underlying neuropsychiatric disorders and their experimental models.
Research to the cell death mechanisms of dopaminergic neurons in the nigro-striatal tract of Parkinson's disease. Development of neuroprotective therapeutic strategies in MPTP/MPP+ - treated rodents. Charaterization of the structure of human neuromelanin of the substantia nigra and its interaction with iron. The goal of this research is to develop in a close cooperation with the Dept.Neurology, a test to image substantia nigra with ultrasonography. Also the development of a simple and cheap blood test for the detection of neuromelanin released from substantia nigra is of major interest.
