Abstract:
New concepts for the preparation of inorganic and hybrid microcapsules are developed on the basis of bio-inspired syntheses. Permeable polymer microcapsules serve as reaction vessels and templates for the deposition of inorganic materials. The separation of the reactants by the capsule wall allows controlling of the mineralisation by concentration, temperature and permeability of the polymer membrane. The study of the occurring transport processes and the mathematical modelling of the material deposition are major objectives of the project. Mineralisation at temperatures below 100°C yields hybrid particles of polymer capsule material and an inorganic coating. These new hybrid particles are compared with the polymer starting material and the inorganic hollow spheres obtained by pyrolysis of the hybrid spheres.
