Multiscale analysis and modeling of magnetic fluids
Project management at the University of Würzburg:
The goal is to establish a long lasting collaboration between the University of Würzburg and the Penn State University on projects related to the effective behaviour of materials with microscopic structure. In particular we will consider ferromagnetic materials (in the context of micromagnetics) and complex fluids involving magnetic interactions. These materials are used in computer disk drives and can find applicationsin green energies. Our objective is the mathematical modelling of such materials and the analysis of the obtained models. This will be based on preliminary work that we performed during our visits to Penn State and Würzburg, respectively, and on our experience on the analytical modelling of ferromagnetic materials and complex fluids. Our mathematical methods include energetic /variational approaches and multi-scale techniques, and our respective expertises are complementary.
