Americanisation of German executive compensation

The project was a first inquiry as to what extent managerial compensation in Germany has already adopted US-style contracts. Due to limited data availability, the comparisons made were limited to rather qualitative measures of similarity or differences.


Based on a matched sample approach, German, US, and British firms were compared to each other. Matching has been done on the basis of industry, sales and size of workforce. It could be shown that German firms already have started to adopt US-style compensation schemes, but right now pronounced differences still exist.
