Pattern Recognition and Video Tracking - Jurisprudential fundamental research and implementation of pattern recognition
Project management at the University of Würzburg:
MuViT is an interdisciplinary network-project dealing with the integration of pattern recognition and video tracking into modern security technology from the points of view of social psychology, sociology, ethics and law. These technologies offer a considerable potential to promptly resolve dangers to public safety and to fight them effectively already at the time of emergence. However, as pattern recognition and video tracking technologies entail considerable encroachments on civil liberties and frictions with equal rights, they raise a wide range of yet unresolved legal and especially constitutional problem that have to be considered for their technical development and application.
The goal of ReGI, the sub-project described here, is to analyse pattern recognition and video tracking technologies from the perspective of the German legal system and to document possibilities of the actual use of these systems in a recommendation booklet. This recommendation booklet is addressed at lawmakers, producers, and also operators of the systems, and will contain a catalogue of criteria for the solution of the practical problems of implementing pattern recognition and video tracking in modern security technologies.
