Mechanisms of Suppression of Apoptosis and their Contribution to Genomic Instability in Tumor Cells
Project management at the University of Würzburg:
The project is based on the hypothesis that chemical carcinogens suppress apoptosis in genetically damaged cells and thus enable the growth of a genetically unstable cell population into a tumor. In addition, resistance against apoptosis induction plays a major role in tumor therapy. In cell lines harboring mutations that are relevant for genomic stability the balance between induced genomic damage and apoptosis after treatment with chemical carcinogens and therapeutic compounds is investigated.
