Abstract:
In 2010, a new RSV A subtype ON1 was described for the first time in Canada and shortly afterwards also in Germany. Preliminary data from Germany suggested an association of the new subtype with a higher disease severity. Within the frame of an IZKF project, consisting of an experimental part and a clinical / diagnostic approach, the epidemiology and disease severity of this new RSV subtype ON1 will be investigated.
The main purpose of the present clinical/diagnostic sub-study is to describe the evolutionary/epidemiological development of the new RSV A ON1 subtype in relation to its pathogenicity; a) retrospectively by analysis of already available data, and b) prospectively by RSV-surveillancestudies in pediatric clinics and practices over a period of 3 years.
