Molecular mechanisms of motoneuron degeneration
Molecular mechanisms for survival of embryonic and postnatal motoneurons
Development and analysis of animal models for sporadic and inherited motoneuron disease
Analysis of signal transduction pathways for neurotrophic factors
Analysis of interaction of glial cells and neurons in particular with respect to maintenance of axons
Analysis of cellular function of disease genes in cell culture and animal models for motoneuron disease
Analysis of molecular mechanisms for differentiation of neuronal stem cells

Results:
Research results are published in a series of papers in Nature Neuroscience, Nature Genetics, Nature Medicine, J. Cell Biology and others. Details are given for individual projects below

Equipment:
3 standard labs (each ca. 20 qm), 2 cell culture labs (each 15 qm), 1 S2 gene lab for viral transfection of primary neurons, office space (ca. 100 qm).

The Institute for Clinical Neurobiology has access to radioactive lab facilities, the animal facility of the Kopfklinikum and the electromicroscope facility at the Department of Neurology.
