Molecular background of high factor VIII levels in venous

High factor VIII levels were recently identified as
an important risk factor for venous thromboembolism. High levels can often
be observed in some families. Hence, a hereditary origin may be suggested.
The molecular background of this phenotype is not known yet. Moreover, many
factors influencing factor VIII activity make the investigation difficult.
Based on thoroughly investigated families, the objective of the study is to
identify genes responsible for familiarly high factor VIII levels. For this
purpose, segregation analysis, positional cloning and yeast-two-hybrid are
