Research foci (and basic equipment-based research projects):
The department of clinical chemistry and laboratory medicine is the central laboratory of the university clinic and thus responsible for patient-related diagnostics in the areas of clinical chemistry, hematology, hemostaseology, immunology, serology, and emergency laboratory analysis and performs about 3.9 million analyses/year. These data also support many ongoing clinical studies at our university clinic. Part of this department is an out-patient service specialized in the clinical and diagnostic evaluation of patients with thrombophilic or hemophilic risk factors or diseases. The research of the department of clinical chemistry (laboratory medicine) therefore addresses the diagnostic and genetic analysis of inherited and acquired thrombophilic and hemophilic diseases. In addition, the incidence and clinical significance of resistance against novel platelet inhibitors is investigated. In addition, modern data bases and the potential of novel reagents and equipment are evaluated.
