Soknopaiu Nesos according to the Demotic sources
Project management at the University of Würzburg:
The traditional focal point of research at the department of Egyptology is the Egyptian Late Period (ca. 7th Century B.C.E. to the 5th century A.D.). The department is one of the most important centres worldwide for research on texts written in the Demotic language and script. Demotic literature is focused on as a whole, with documentary, literary and religious texts all being researched. The idea is to make it clear that the demotic sources are well within Egyptian textual traditions and cannot be marginalized. The only periodical for Demotic Studies (Enchoria Zeitschrift für Demotistik und Koptologie/ Enchoria Periodical for Demotic Studies and Coptology) has been released here for over 30 years.
The research that previously concentrated on mostly demotic documents has changed in the last few years to incorporate demotic literature and its connections to older Egyptian texts and the ancient literatures of surrounding countries, as well as the demotic religious literature within the almost 3000-year-old tradition of Egyptian religious texts. After the successful completion of a ten-year project that was prompted by the Würzburg department and executed by the International Committee for the Publication of the Carlsberg Papyri, a DFG project called Soknopaiu Nesos (led by Prof. Zauzich) took place from the summer of 2000 to 2006, from which three of four planned volumes have yet emerged.
