Third-party-funded project

Publication of the drawings for the etchings in the "Pomona Franconica" by
Johann Prokop Mayer

Project management at the University of Würzburg:

Participating scientists:

The "Pomona Franconica" by the Würzburg court gardener Johann Prokop Mayer
(1735-1804) is the most lavishly illustrated botanical work of Baroque
Germany. The drawings for the illustrations of this book were sold at
Christie's in 2000 and are presently on loan at the Würzburg university
library. Being a co-operation between the library and the Institute for Art
History, it is planned to publish the sheets for reasons of their
unestimable art historical value and their documentary value for the
history of gardening and of botanical science in general. The edition will
be accompanied by introductory essays and a critical commentary.
