Kurzbeschreibung:
Objects or stimuli do not appear at random, they rather tend to show up at specific locations and at specific moments in time. Such spatial and temporal redundancies allow predictions and by this preparation to forthcoming events. There is ample experimental evidence showing that expectations of the location at which a forthcoming object or stimulus will appear indeed facilitate responding. In contrast, only a few studies investigated so far the impact of temporal redundancies in the appearance of stimuli on performance.
Against this background the project investigates the impact of redundant temporal distributions of stimuli on performance in comparison to the impact which comparable redundant spatial distributions exert. Redundancy effects on stimulus processing and on response generation are decomposed, and the learning dependent formation of temporal expectancies is explored.
