Metacognitive Competencies in Kindergarten and School Children: Developmental Trends in Memory Monitoring and Control Processes

The research project addresses the development of procedural metamemory in kindergarten and school children. Four experiments are designed to investigate developmental trends in memory monitoring and control processes in various retention tasks. In three of four experiments the development of monitoring processes is of major interest: Whereas two experiments aim to examine global and specific performance predictions, experiment three investigates the accuracy of feeling-of-knowing judgments. Experiment 4 addresses the question whether accurate monitoring leads to appropriate self-regulation by using the paradigm of study time allocation.
