Abstract:
The focus of our research project is that of transferring cross-sectional findings to the longitudinal process of intraindividual memory development. To study this question we recruited 102 preschool children. Since April 2001 we have a two-hours investigation with each single child within every six months. Referring to our longitudinal design we hope to find an answer whether or not the cross-sectional finding of utilization deficiency really exists. We further investigate the influence of working memory, metamemory, motivation and self-concept of children’s own memory abilities on the interindividual differences in memory development. After project termination we finally hope to be able to explain memory development by the phase model of strategy development superior to the so-called optimization model of the „fuzzy-trace“ theory.
