Research foci (and basic equipment-based research projects):
The interrelation of emotional behavior and experience as well as their
disturbance in psychic disorders and neurological diseases was studied
under various perspectives. Thus the elicitation and control of facial
reactions to various stimuli (odour, taste, social stimuli)was studied in
Parkinson and rheumatoid arthritis patients. The development of control of
facial reactions to odours was studied in preschool children. The relevance
of alexithymia for psychic disorders was compared in psychosomatic patients
and alcohol dependency.
Results:
The reduced facial activity in M. Parkinson can be regarded as a core factor
for the negative evaluation of their personality.
Children develop their ability to control spontaneous facial reaction at
the beginning of school education.
Alexithymia appears to be less a specific trait in psychosomatic patients
but occurs to a similar extent in alcohol dependency.
