Occurrence, transport and action of the stress hormone abscisic acid.

Root tips, that are able to measure the soil water potential as the soil
is drying, synthesise ABA and ABA-conjugates and release them to the xylem.
After transmission to the shoot ABA improves the water relatons acting on
stomata and meristems. The mechanisms that modify the intensity of the
stress signal in the transport vessels and the target cells surrounding apoplast
have been investigated.
Chamaegigas intrepidus, an endemically growing poikilohydric angiospem of
central Namibia has been included to the project to study the survival
strategies of this resurrection plant, focussing the role of the stress
hormone abscisic acid.
