Improving function and interaction prediction in enzyme cascades
Project management at the University of Würzburg:
The project tackles the problem of predicting enzyme function and interactions based on large scale sequence data. With the growing gap between the number of sequences versus the number of experimentally characterized genes, automated methods for function and interaction prediction will be needed. Where most methods aim for a broad classification, in this project we aim for the detailed understanding of a proteins molecular function and the resulting enzyme network. Furthermore, we are trying to understand how new functions can evolve from given modules. Here, we already have discovered a currently underestimated feature of regulatory networks, the use of ‘inactive’ enzymes.
