Title:
"New Agents from Tropical Plants and Soil Organisms: Isolation, Structure Elucidation, and Chemical Modification" within the Collaborative Research Project entitled "Molecular Interaction between Targets and Natural Products as a Tool for the Identification of New Agents and Agent Models for Agrochemical and Pharmaceutical Research" (managed by the BASF AG)

Abstract:
Tropical medicinal plants produce a variety of biologically active secondary metabolites, a rich, but still largely untapped source of novel leads for the development of new agrochemicals and pharmaceutics. After selection of plants by ethnobotanical criteria, biological activities of plant extracts and isolated compounds were investigated by special molecular test systems (established by the BASF AG). Selected fields of indication are herbicidal, fungicidal, anti-tumor, CNS, and anti-hypertensive activities. According to these criteria, crude plant extracts of different polarity will be tested to identify the active principle.
