Title:
Calixarene-Rylene Conjugates: New Multichromophore Architectures and Fluorescence Sensors for Biologically Relevant Structures

Project management at the University of Würzburg:

Participating scientists:

Abstract:

Calix[4]arenes that are readily accessible in large amounts are combined through covalent coupling at the wide upper rim with the versatile class of fluorescence dyes naphthaline and perylene bisimides. Conjugates synthesized by this way, which may contain several dye and calixarene building blocks, serve the purpose of clarifying basic questions, e.g. interactions of different dye units that are brought to defined spatial arrangements. By further functionalisation of the calixarenes with melamines and peptides, which are able to interact with nucleic acids and amino acids through hydrogen bonding and p-interaction, receptor molecules are built up in which the coordination of guest molecules can be detected by CD and fluorescence spectroscopy.
