Aim 1   Develop a drug delivery system from SF


1.1  Identify optimal formulation for SF and SF/ therapeutic protein blends leading rapid β-sheet induction through vortex induced gelification (simulating the striation movement of insects and spiders occurring as the ultimate step in natural silk processing) and counterbalance by efficient control of β-sheet formation during storage to prevent premature solidification as a prerequisite to store liquid, high SF concentrations during shelf life.


1.2  Deploy such optimized formulations as hydrogels and coating of therapeutic crystals.


Aim 2   Develop a drug delivery system from plant derived polysaccharides and amylose-fatty acids complexes


2.1  Translate self assembly properties of natural polymers into hydrogel drug delivery systems and for coating of therapeutic crystals. Explore the potential of of plant derived polysaccharides and amylose-fatty acids complexes as drug delivery vehicles and coating of therapeutic crystals.

2.2  Evaluate in vitro toxicity of plant derived natural polymers.
