Rational design of functional receptor for the selective binding and cleavage of short olipeptides in aqueous solvents

Functional receptors for biological interesting molecules, such as amino acids, peptides or carbohydrates, are of interest for the design of biosensors, for affinity chromatography or for the study and probing of cellular processes in which these molecules are involved.[ ] So far, the development and the synthesis of such receptors, especially for polar solvents, is still a challenging task. A thorough quantitative knowledge of the thermodynamic of non-covalent interactions is necessary for the rational design of such systems. Therefore, we are interested in the evaluation of various binding motifs for peptide substructures (e.g. C-terminus, amide backbone, side chains) which can then be used, in form of a molecular kit, to build specific receptors.
