Abstract:
The project aims at understanding the role of microscopic processes for
the emerging macroscopic properties of growing films. Kinetic Monte Carlo
simulations serve as the main tool of investigation.
An important aspect concerns the influence of step edge diffusion processes
for the formation and dynamics of threedimensional mound structures in
unstable epitaxial growth.
Furthermore, the complex interplay of surface reconstructions with the
nonequilibrium dynamics of sublimating or growing surfaces is investigated.
In this context, (001) surfaces of II-VI semiconductors serve as the
example system.
