Evaluation of the Fail-Safe-Concept of Active Front Steering-System
Project management at the University of Würzburg:
Systems regulating driving dynamics should assist the driver in vehicle handling and thus contribute to active safety. Essential criteria for the system?s evaluation are not only the expected benefits of driving safety and comfort but also the potential risk following system failure. This project focuses on possible mistakes and failures of the steering system and their consequences on the driver-vehicle-interaction using an instrumented test vehicle and a driving simulator. Subjects in this study were average as well as expert drivers. Performance measures (driver inputs, lane keeping, etc.) and subjective evaluations were recorded in different driving maneuvers and under several traffic situational demands.
