Third-party-funded project

A Workload Approach to the Evaluation of Vehicle Handling

Project management at the University of Würzburg:

Participating scientists:

The project provides a methodological approach to the assessment of driver workload in different tasks. Corresponding to the multidimensional concept of workload three classes of assessment techniques were used: performance-based measures (e.g. operational input), physiological ECG measures, and subjective measures of driver effort. A new technique of subjective workload assessment, the ?category production method?, is introduced. The studies´ basic aim is to establish individual workload functions between the parameters of the different domains. The experiments were conducted in two instrumented test-vehicles. The results indicate highly sensitive and reliable effects of workload manipulation on all three parameters.
