Abstract:
The concept of situation awareness was primarily developed in air traffic research und describes the perception of the elements in the environment within a volume of time and space, the comprehension of their meaning, and the projection of their status in the near future. (Endsley, 1988). This project aims at transferring this concept to the field of driving. This requires theoretical and conceptual considerations about the concept as well as the development of measurements for situation awareness in driving simulation. The main focus of this project is the examination of the influence of driver information systems on situation awareness in order to give design guidelines for adequately supporting the driver in maintaining situation awareness.
